Adventure in Antarctica
Mom and I just returned from Antarctica and I can't even begin to describe our experience. It felt like we stepped backwards in time to the Ice Age with all the icebergs, wildlife, and untouched areas. Everything was breath-taking. And watching us get dressed and ready to head out into the zodiacs was fun and funny. In addition, we both made it to the "Seven Continents" club! :-) Yippee!
Joy
I was cleared medically by the Peace Corps on December 14.
I clarified some minor details and was forwarded to a Placement Specialist on December 20.
Uncertainty
I was notified on December 21 that I will not be invited to the program I was initially nominated and will be delayed to a program starting in April to June 2011. Why? Because of "programmatic changes, competitiveness for programs, timing of medical clearances, changes in departure dates, and canceling of programs." I get it.
My recruiter and my medical services contact provided additional insight as to why this might have occurred (basically, this sort of thing happens all the time). My PC contacts are so supportive. (Thanks Tori and Greg!)
While I am terribly disappointed, sad, perturbed, (and other emotions not worth mentioning), I know this is all part of the process. And hey, I learned Spanish!
